Learn by Doing: Embracing the first step

"The first step is the hardest in every journey of dreams." - Moffat Machingura

I want to preface this by saying that there is more than one way to success.

The first step toward your goals, dreams, or really anything will always be the hardest step. As humans, we love the comfort of knowing what to expect. We love walking down paths when we know both the journey and destination. Although such paths do exist, they are few and far between.

When it comes to starting something new, whether that's a project, goal, or hobby, there is no clear path. The freedom to create a path can be overwhelming and exhausting. I often find myself evaluating every possible way of doing something and preparing for that moment without actually taking action. And once I've chosen a particular path, I doubt myself, and the cycle repeats.

The idea of needing a full evaluation before taking action is sometimes a hindrance. If you knew all the obstacles you would encounter along the way, you might never consider starting. There's often a fleeting feeling of throwing yourself into the deep end—starting something without knowing the full picture and learning by doing.

Personally, I've found much more success by embracing the first step and allowing myself the opportunity to learn as I progress. By not trying to sprint to the destination, I've come to appreciate the value of learning by doing.
